Party 19/20 | YWCA Holiday Dinner
Every family has holiday traditions. For our family here at TC, one of our favorites is the holiday party for the YWCA Women's Residency.
The YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
In 1886, the Columbus chapter was born. At the time they sheltered 25 young women who had recently moved to Columbus and were looking for a safe place to stay. Today, in the newly renovated building downtown, they shelter 91 women. The women who live at the YWCA are in transition. Sometimes starting their first job, recovering from domestic violence, homelessness or addiction, or pursuing their education. The services offered in the women's residency include wellness, education (financial, literacy, GED), and assistance finding jobs.
It is inspiring to be surrounded by the residents. They come from harsh environments and backgrounds but have the determination and strength to work hard and improve their circumstances and look toward the opportunities available in their future.
They also know how to have fun!
We have donated catering for their holiday party for years and each December our team gets so excited - and festive - for the occasion. Along with the amazing team that works at the YWCA, the residents ate (second and thirds!), sang carol after carol, laughed, won prizes and enjoyed the holidays together. See how much fun we all had together in the photos below.
